Missionvale Music Marathon Dreamcatcher Concert

July 27, 2014

Free – $25

It has the longest title of any event on the Calendar this month, but what is this concert all about?

For eight hours on Sunday July 27, starting at 10.30am Federation Square’s Deakin Edge will thrill to the magical sounds of classical piano and Big Band jazz as Melbourne’s finest musicians play their hearts out for a South African community.

Missionvale Care Centre was started in 1988 by Sister Ethel Normoyle, and in the past 25 years has changed the lives of thousands of poverty-stricken people. Sister Ethel has won countless humanitarian prizes for her work, and Melbourne music professional Pat Morgan is the woman behind local support to keep the centre going. And what better way to do it than with music?

Amongst the many events, the classical piano program takes the stage at 2 pm. Esteemed pianist Professor Max Cooke and his Team of Pianists colleague Darryl Coote are giving their time to play a duet and Darryl will also play solo. Also performing are piano virtuoso Yiyun Gu, flautist Jessica Farrell and many other luminaries from the piano world.

Tickets are only $25 adult and $15 student and concession for the entire day, with lower prices for individual sessions. Children 12 years and under are free. Recommended as an entertaining and feel-good event.
