Sometimes composers believe that larger-scale works can be successfully presented with smaller forces. Such is the case with the two works in Concert Three. Both the Symphony (reduced from full orchestra) and the Septet (originally for piano, trumpet, two violins, viola, cello, bass) were re-arranged by their composers for the piano trio medium to terrific effect. The Beethoven performance launches the TAM ‘Beethoven 2020’ project – performing all of Beethoven’s piano trios during his anniversary year over one weekend.
