Mostly Mozart A French Connection

July 30, 2014 @ 11:00 am

$38 – $47

One of the most important French composers of the Baroque era.
Jean-Philippe Rameau was one of the most important French composers of the Baroque era. His Les Indes galantes, termed an opéra-ballet, is a delicious song and dance spectacle exhibiting the French flair for colour and movement.

Rameau’s French compatriots Jean Baptiste Lully and Cécile Chaminade add to this rich musical bouillabaisse with works that will transport you to continental Europe. Chaminade’s Concertino for flute and orchestra is considered fiendishly difficult with a highly decorative solo part that is quite demanding for the soloist and Mozart’s flute concerto with its unassuming grace, imaginative workmanship and expressive power is equally challenging.

Mozart exhibited a special affinity with the woodwind family, writing prolifically for the instruments throughout his lifetime. The G major Concerto is a stand-out work with its delectable melody and elegance.
