Mimir Chamber Music Festival

Experience some of the world’s finest chamber musicians at the annual Mimir Chamber Music Festival, 24 August – 1 September 2019 at its new Melbourne home, The Ian Potter Southbank Centre. 

Fresh from its 22nd season in Fort Worth, Texas, the Mimir Chamber Music Festival features leaders of North America’s top orchestras, Grammy Award-nominated recording artists and faculty members of premiere conservatories in the United States and Australia.

This year’s special guest artists include:  Joan DerHovsepian, viola (USA), Jun Iwasaki, violin (USA), John Novacek, piano (USA), Stephen Rose, violin (USA), Brant Taylor, cello (USA), Curt Thompson, violin (Aus).

Named for the Norse god of wisdom, Mimir artists will present three public performances at the new Ian Potter Southbank Centre during the week-long festival.

As part of the Festival, Mimir guest artists will also mentor young musicians from the Melbourne Conservatorium and secondary schools from across Victoria in a range of master classes, coaching and demonstrations providing exceptional educational experiences for future generations of Australian musicians,

Masterclasses and student performances are free and open to the public.

Mimir was founded in 1998 in Fort Worth, Texas by Dr Curt Thompson, Associate Professor of Music (Violin) and Head of Strings at the Melbourne Conservatorium.  The festival has been held in Melbourne since 2013.
