Here, Now, Always
September 18, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm$25 – $35
IN HIS FIRST RESIDENCY AT ANAM, EXCEPTIONAL MUSICIAN AND OBOIST DAVID WALTER SHARES HIS KNOWLEDGE WITH ANAM MUSICIANS, LEADING THEM IN TWO PREMIERES.
- One of the world’s most significant oboe pedagogues, David Walter was only 29 when he was appointed the youngest-ever oboe and chamber music professor at the Paris Conservatoire. He is also a conductor, composer, an active commissioner of new music and a tireless transcriber; in the interests of expanding the oboe repertoire, he has made more than 230 arrangements, one of which – his masterly arrangement of Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Haydn – concludes this morning’s program
- The concert also includes a classic for wind dectet, by Debussy’s friend and sometime-collaborator André Caplet. His Suite Persane is a beguiling souvenir of imperial France and its fascination with the exotic
- Former Justice of the NSW Supreme Court, George Palmer is now a prolific and successful composer, and his new work, Here, Now, Always – written especially for ANAM’s woodwinds – cohort, will receive its world premiere performance
