Grief: The Premiere of a Cycle By Kate Lawson Gould

August 12, 2017 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

$25.00

In this concert, Hamish Gould, countertenor, teams up with renowned pianist David Lampiere-Laughton to perform Kate Lawson Gould’s emotional and musical tour-de force, Grief.
While the cycle is structured around the well-known seven stages of grief, it moves beyond acceptance, to transcendence. Kate Lawson Gould’s music is both accessible and complex, and the cycle speaks to what it is to experience loss of a loved one, loss of stability and even loss of self.

Before the cycle, Hamish and David will perform Antonio Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater. Although less well known, it is as sublime and nuanced as any of Vivaldi’s compositions and suits the countertenor voice perfectly. David Lampiere-Laughton will also play Chopin’s Ballade No. 3 in A flat (Op. 47).

After the Concert, there will be afternoon tea provided, including cakes, tea and coffee. You will be welcome to talk to the performers and Kate Lawson-Gould. David Lampiere-Laughton will be selling copies of his latest CD Nu Day with music by Dindy Vaughn and Kate Lawson Gould will be selling CDs of her church solos.
