Thomson – The River
Tomasi – Trumpet Concerto
Arban – Fantasia on Carnival of Venice
Gould – Symphonette No.4 ‘Latin American’

Guest Artist, Tristram Williams one of Australia’s most versatile and
creative musicians returns to HSO to showcase his virtuosity in Tomasi’s Trumpet Concerto and Arban’s Fantasia on Carnival
of Venice. In a special presentation, HSO performs
Virgil Thomson’s music live together with Pare Lorenz’s
film The River; a documentary on the abuses of America’s waterways culminating in the catastrophic Mississippi River flood of 1937. Latin-American idioms and dance forms like the rhumba, tango, guaracha and conga will fill the auditorium with infectious rhythms in Morton Gould’s Symphonette No. 4; a perfect way to celebrate a brilliant year of music with our audiences.
